CDC Efforts to Enhance Visibility of Disabilities

CDC has announced the appointment of Dr. Vince Campbell to serve as the agency's Chief Disability and Health Officer. In this capacity Dr. Campbell will serve as the liaison from the NCBDDD's Division of Human Development and Disability to CDC's Office of the Associate Director of Program and will help develop and coordinate CDC's disability and health strategy across the agency. In addition, CDC has announced the formation of the first Disability and Health Work Group. The work group will advance the health of people with disabilities by facilitating collaboration on disability inclusion within and across all relevant CDC components and activities. With cross-agency representation, the work group will focus on incorporating disability status into CDC surveys, showcasing best practices, and ensuring that relevant issues for people with disabilities are reflected in CDC programs and policies. The work group's first meeting is planned for June, with scheduled updates to be provided on major activities each year.
